As a consultant, from time to time, I run across a client with an unusual
need. Recently, I was asked to create a Help file for an online application
they created.
My first reaction was to visit Microsoft's web site and look for a copy of
their latest Windows Help compiler, but what I found and later tested was not
good. It was neither intuitive nor full-featured enough for my project.
A friend pointed me in the direction of SoftAny's WinCHM
Pro which creates Window's compatible Help files in CHM format, HTML
Help files, and more.

This is a remarkably easy tool to use. If you do not know
HTML, that's fine -- it's not necessary. All you need to know is how to use
the built-in text editor, and if you have used any word processor then you
already know what to do.
You start off by creating your Table of Contents and breaking
the information to be included in the Help file into logical sections. You can
then create pages beneath them and begin entering your text and graphics.
WinCHM Pro
allows you to preview your work at any time and also has a powerful indexing
function under Topic options. For each screen of your Help file, you simply
list the keywords and phrases you expect your users will use to find that
specific information.
Compiling your Help file is accomplished with the click of a
button and is blindingly fast. You may then review your final Help file before
implementing it within your project.
